To our valued Bankers Hall Club members,
After the risk in Alberta changed from low to undefined on March 16, and with the exponential increase of COVID-19 cases in the province, urgent action was required to protect the health and safety of our staff and members, to do our part to flatten the curve, and for the stability and longevity of our business. As a result, we took the abrupt but necessary steps of voluntarily closing our clubs and temporarily laying off club staff. Due to the challenging Alberta market and the immediate action we had to take, we were unfortunately not able to give staff notice in these circumstances. These decisions were difficult and I assure you that we are working hard on a better outcome for our staff in the coming days. In the meantime, employees will continue to have access to their benefits and mental health support.
To continue supporting the physical and mental health of our members, we will be offering remote fitness services which we will announce in more detail tomorrow. Exclusively for members who continue with their regular dues, we will be offering a loyalty incentive. If these options do not work for you, we will freeze your dues at no cost. As you can imagine, the current volume of inquiries is extraordinary, and we will work to action your preference as quickly as possible. Our gyms may be large, but we are a relatively small Alberta-based company and we appreciate your support, patience and understanding through these troubling times.
In the interest of all Albertans, I want to take this opportunity to urge you to remind your friends and loved ones to stay home as much as possible and follow the advice of health authorities and the government to slow the spread of COVID-19 while we still have time.
We will continue to work around the clock to implement solutions that best support our members and staff, while fulfilling our responsibility to the public. After monitoring the progression of the COVID-19 outbreak in Alberta and taking intensive preventative measures, we decided to temporarily close all locations and boutique studios in Calgary and Edmonton on March 17. Shortly afterwards, the Government of Alberta mandated that all fitness clubs in the province were to close.
We will reopen after the Government of Alberta deems it safe for us to do so.
We wanted our members to have options. Instead of automatically freezing memberships we’re letting our members choose between freezing their membership at no cost or opting into our Member Incentive program.
We are offering a loyalty incentive exclusively for members who continue with their regular dues and choose to support us. Please stay tuned for details.

Our employees are family. Those impacted by club closures have received two weeks paid notice, have continued access to benefit plans and mental health support. We are bringing back some of our trainers to help level-up your fitness game with our Remote Fitness Membership options.
Our team is happy to freeze personal training subscriptions for members whose accounts are in good standing. Like our membership options, we’re offering an incentive to members who continue with their personal training subscription. You’ll get two free training sessions and of course the sessions being purchased on the subscription while we are closed are banked for you. However, if you’re not interested in free sessions, we are happy to freeze and/or credit your account as appropriate at no cost.

Over the past several weeks, we have been monitoring the progression of the COVID-19 outbreak in Alberta and around the world. We are committed to supporting the public effort to “flatten the curve” of COVID-19 based on the recommendations and expertise of the Government of Alberta.
Effective March 17, we will be temporarily closing Bankers Hall Club.
Until this point, we have taken increasingly cautious preventative measures to create a safe workout environment. We make this decision today after the Government of Alberta changed the risk level in Alberta from low to undefined, and after Prime Minister Trudeau told Canadians to stay home. Now, we temporarily close our doors in the interest of our community as we do our part to flatten the curve.
This decision was not made easily, but the health of our team and members is our top priority. We know members will have questions about their accounts. Our teams are working around the clock to make changes and operationalize the impact of recent decisions. In the coming days, we will provide membership freeze options, incentives, and new innovative remote fitness services. In the meantime, we sincerely appreciate your understanding. Be safe Alberta.
